Tata launched the Nexon in India in 2017. Now, two years later, the carmaker is planning to give the sub-4m SUV a mid-life facelift. The facelifted Nexon has been spied for the very first time.
Although the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it gave us a fair idea of what to expect from the updated subcompact SUV. The 2020 Nexon will be the fourth car in the Tata lineup to follow the brand’s new IMPACT 2.0 design after the Harrier, the upcoming Altorz and the H2X micro SUV concept.
Even with the camouflage wrap, it is quite apparent that the refreshed Nexon is set to become mean and aggressive compared to the bubbly looking outgoing model. Upfront, the 2020 Nexon features new sharp-looking dual-barrel headlamps with LED DRLs flanking the new slimmer front grille. The redesigned bumper features chunky fog lamp housings with a large central air dam like the outgoing model.
The spy shots don’t reveal anything about the interior of the updated Nexon. However, it is expected to get a new steering wheel (which might be introduced before this facelifted model arrives), a larger infotainment screen and possibly a sunroof as well. Features like a semi digital instrument cluster and ambient light could also part of the package since the relatively economical Altroz will offer them too.
Safety features are likely to remain unchanged. Like the current car, it will get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard.
Under the hood, the Nexon facelift is likely to get the BS6 versions of both the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. In the current avatar, the 1.2-litre petrol engine makes 110PS of power and 170Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel unit is good enough for 110PS and 260Nm. Both these engines are available with a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed AMT.
The Nexon facelift is expected to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo followed soon by its launch. Prices are expected to start at a slight premium over the current car, which retails from Rs 6.59 lakh to Rs 10.01 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will renew its rivalry against the likes of the 2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the Honda WR-V.
