Toyota to roll in a new Camry for India in 2019

Toyota will be launching the all-new Camry on 18th January. This is the 8th generation Camry Hybrid which will hit the Indian market. Its confirmed that the Camry will be based on the TNGA design and has been beefed up form its previous variant. The design is highly influenced by its fellow Japanese cars like the Lexus. Along with the dimensions, the feature list has also stretched to a more desirable level.

Toyota has ten active Camry models ready to be floored but only the Hybrid variants will make an appearance in India. The LE, XLE, as well as the sporty SE Hybrid, will take the centre stage. The Camry has been the bestselling car in the US for the past 16 years and seeing the specifications its future is bright in India.

Driving and Performance:

Toyota Camry will harbour a 2.5 Liter Dynamic Force 4-Cylinder Engine mated to an Electronic Controlled continuous variable transmission. The potent engine is keen to deliver power and the ECVT is compliant with its intentions. There are no interruptions and the ride remains smooth and quiet with its four driving modes. The EV put the electric motor to use though only on low speeds. The ECO mode improves efficiency while the Normal and Sports mode restricts or amplifies the throttle response. The traction control keeps the Camry planted and the large disc brakes facilitate smooth stopping.

Interior

The Camry’s interior is very spacious, nicely laid out and all the controls are can be accessed with ease. The front panel has a 7-inch touch screen with an Entune 3.0 infotainment system, there is a storage cabinet beneath the armrest and cup holders in the front cabin. The driver seat is power adjustable with lumbar support while the passenger seat is standard. There is a USB charger and additional wireless charging available in the Camry.

Every Toyota features an adjustable steering wheel and the driver seat panel that has a multi-information digital display which shows a galore of settings and car statistics like fuel status, mileage and display alerts. The car can seat five passengers comfortably with ample head room and leg room space.

Exterior

This mid-sized sedan has very bold and aggressive exterior with sleek design and sweeping curves. The design offers a low drag coefficient, enhancing efficiency and performance. The front has a gray horizontal grille for XLE variant and black mesh grille for LE and SE variant. Every Hybrid model has its signature blue Toyota logo. The LE and SE models have Bi-LED combination headlights, while the XLE has LED headlights with fully integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

Looking from the side the Camry mesmerizes the viewer with its sleek design, it has 18-inch. black machined-finish alloy wheels in SE and XLE variants and 16-inch steel wheels in LE model. The side view mirrors have turn indicators and also comes with blind spot monitor indicator, which lightens up when any car in your rear is not visible in the side mirrors. You can also add the optional moonroof for the panoramic rooftop. At the back, the car has LED combination taillights and parking sensor which beeps frequently when you get near to an object while parking.

Safety

Camry comes with Star Safety System which adds a multicity of safety suit inclusive of features like-

  • Traction Control (TRAC)
  • 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
  • Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology (SST)

It also comes with perimeter scan technology called Bird`s eye view camera and an intelligent clearance sonar with Rear Cross Traffic Breaking, which stops the vehicle to avoid a collision.

The Lane departure alert maintains the lane and Automatic High Beams (AHB) technology helps you drive safely at night. In addition to this, the car also comes with a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection to avoid a collision.

In the event of an accident, the Camry has an SOS button which will send necessary help to the location.

Toyota has a reputation for building cars according to the segment demands and the 2019 Camry Hybrid is already fulfilling our expectations. Camry is expected to be available on January 18 but a luxury like this would come at a price, which is expected to be more than 38 lakhs (ex-showroom) in Indian rupees, though the Camry is worth every bit of it. At the end of the day, any person would love to drive around in this beauty.
