New budget compels to move from blackboards to digital boards

Improving quality of education

This was Narendra Modi-led government’s fifth budget in Parliament. Making the announcement for an integrated B.Ed programme for teachers to improve the quality of teachers, he said that "We propose to move gradually from blackboard to digital board."

Jaitley started his budget speech addressing agriculture distress, unemployment and ways to boost growth in the Indian economy while sticking to fiscal prudence. Finance minister Jaitley in his Union Budget Speech 2018 exclaimed that the government is implementing a comprehensive social security scheme.

Keeping the quality of education, Jaitley said, "We have managed to get children to school but the quality of education is still a cause for concern. We now propose to treat education holistically without segmentation from pre-nursery to Class 12."

Revitalising of Infrastructure and Systems of Education (RISE)

The government also plans to launch "Revitalising of Infrastructure and Systems of Education (RISE)" by 2019.

In the Budget speech, FM also purposed to set up two new full-fledged Schools of Planning and Architecture. Eighteen new Schools of Planning and Architecture will also be set up in the IITs and NITs.

By 2022, every block with more than 50 percent ST population and at least 20,000 tribal people will have `Ekalavya` school at par with Navodaya Vidayalas.

Upgrading medical colleges

To cover the gap between doctor-patient ratio in the country, Jaitley purposed to set up 24 new government medical colleges by upgrading the existing district hospitals in the country. The government intends to set up at least one medical college for three Parliamentary constituencies.

Subsidising education

To motivate researchers, the FinMin announced Prime Minister`s fellowship programme to subsidise research work in the country.

Digital Learning has become popular across the globe as the next big reform in the realm of education bringing up data science and artificial intelligence, and rightly so country’s education system has taken a step towards it.
