What is Andropause?

Male menopause or andropause is the duration at the age of 50 and above when men`s bodies go through a drop in testosterone production. These age associated alteration in the levels of hormones of men are what is referred to as andropause.

 What exactly happens in Andropause?

When men hit andropause, they experience a decrease in the levels of testosterone. It can also be linked with hypogonadism, a condition of malfunction of the testes in men (and ovaries in women). This is what happens internally, but men also face some physical changes as well. Like, a sense of depression, difficulty in sleeping, lowered energy, development of breasts, reduced size of testes, loss of body hair, decreased bone density, a reduced libido, problems with erection, decreased self-confidence, among other things.

Does that mean, men cannot father Anthropause?

Unlike menopause, andropause doesn’t restrict fathering altogether. Men may be capable of fathering even after it. Conversely, various sexual or reproductive complications may arise and due to the weak quality of sperms, the child may be at an increased risk of various diseases.

Can male menopause be controlled?

When compared to menopause, andropause is very gradual because unlike the former one which stops suddenly ending ovulation and bombarding hormonal changes, andropause is gradual. The testosterone levels drop over an extended period, but if you feel sudden changes, it is always advisable to consult a doctor.

So women, now don’t crib about hormonal changes, for even men face similar changes.
