Ways to protect yourself from air pollution

Here`s a list of measures you could follow in your daily life

Air pollution is more deadly than other types of pollution  because it is widely spread all in the external environment and one cannot stop breathing. The air quality of most of the metro cities in India has deteriorated over the years due to numerous reasons and Delhi tops in this category.  A study of Centre for Science & Environment revealed that life expectancy of  Indians has gone down by 2.6 years due to diseases caused by air pollution. Though the air quality in the national capital has improved in the recent days but it is still not safe.

Irrespective of weather conditions you should always be prepared to protect yourself from the ill  effects of air pollution.  

Here`s a list of measures you could follow in your daily life

 Use face mask

Masks are the primary and basic approach to counter  the effects of air pollution. N95 &N99 mask should be used whenever you go out of the house.

Air purifying plants

Air Purifying plants such as Aloe Vera, Ivy and Spider Plant can be placed in the home and offices. They help purify indoor air and minimize indoor pollution.

Ventilation

Very few people are aware that indoor air pollution is more harmful than outdoor. To avoid indoor air pollution, make sure there is a chimney in the kitchen and an exhaust in the bathroom.   

Use air-purifiers

Use air purifiers at home especially in the kids room and room of the elderly  who are most prone to the ill effects of toxic air.

Take steam  

To remove harmful particulate substances from your body, take steam with a few drops of eucalyptus oil every day.

Detoxification

Jaggery is easily available in the market, eat jaggery to remove pollutants from your lungs. You can either eat it raw or use it in place of sugar in your food items.

 Healthy diet

A healthy diet improves your immunity and helps your body to fight against the ill effects of pollution. Consume fruits rich in Vitamin C, Magnesium and foods rich in Omega Fatty Acids.
