Blood Curdling! Creativity Is Not Always What A Maker Thinks It To Be

This can happen in a developed and civilized country is hard to digest. In a school in Florida two middle class girls planned to devour the blood and flesh of few classmates so that they become sinners and join the Satan after death. They had in fact planned to stab themselves to death after drinking the blood of the classmates and eating their flesh . However, a sharp observation by the administration of the school discovered the weapons (knives) with which they were hiding inside the school toilet for the first victim.

According the Florida police the two girls had planned to kill one girl first and then go upto 15 to 25 devouring their blood and flesh. The idea in fact came to them from a ‘scary ‘ movie they watched at home. However, the plan was somehow foiled when the administrator of the school searched for them when they did not show up at the classes.

The police, which has kept them at the juvenile centre after the arrests,  has said in its affidavit that the two girls planned to lie in await at the bathroom and predate on small girls one by one. It was reported in a news agency sometime back.

Creativity & Paganism Cannot Go Together

It sounds ghastly and horrifying. It is not the question about where did it happen, whether in US or in any other part of the world but, what could be the reasons that triggers such abnormal thoughts those get saturated into a kind of bestial instincts.

Can it be said that, in the name of creativity, say filmmaking or through any other format of entertainment, can such makers be expected to do an introspection beforehand that if such works have any constructive impact on normal people or, if at all, such things do exist in the societies we live in or, they are just figments of some imaginations of the makers through such outrageous fictions made to be believed as  art, if it can be called so.

There are no evidence, perhaps, from time immemorial that, even any form of orthodox idiocies had any moral space in human mind. Either they are self-inflicted as seen in some western movies or, inflicted by the febrile fantasy of an inflictor, no civilized society should allow such stuff if they descend to such levels.

The two girls in the above incident in Florida , reportedly, picked up the idea from a ‘scary’ movie. Which obviously implies that, all that a film maker offers in the name of thriller wrapped in a cloak of creativity, go a long way adversely impacting even normal minds with bizarre outcomes.

Are the juveniles psychology more susceptible to such incriminating things? The incident in Delhi in 2012 in which the juvenile accused made a brutal assault on the victim with a screwdriver cannot be seen in isolation. It was not the spur of the moment kind of act but, it was deliberate and was not ridden off a calibration of mind and even cannot be dismissed as a beastly deed driven by a state of inebriation.

After abusing a young woman for over an hour, those herd of perpetrators would be in a state of inebriation nor the juvenile accused who made the final assault with that weapon, was a person whose inner self failed him to realize what he was doing, none of these reasoning were plausible.

Juvenile Act Needs A Rethink

Looking at some episodes in television channels as crime series, some incidents of murder or  physical assaults do point at states when such acts are perpetrated with calculated designs and intents where humanity and inhumanity are compartmentalized after a lot of thought. A state of mind that cannot be forgiven.

As we advance ahead into a time when the human race dares to wallow in a self driven glory having conquered the universe yet we refuse to wriggle out of the archaic laws no more relevant for the crimes of unthought-of of nature.

Are such portrayals not going to impact the susceptibility of young minds? Yes, they do.

Video and sound are strong catalysts to muff any mind tracks towards negativity. Media, in whatever form should be obliged to inlay their creativity with some amount of intellectual honesty and responsibility.
