The United Nations announced May 22 “The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB)” to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. The theme “Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity” has been chosen to mark the 25th anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention on Biological Diversity and to highlight progress made in the achievement of its objectives at the national and global levels.  The celebration of the IDB under this theme, therefore, provides an opportunity to raise awareness and action towards the economic growth and to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. 

Himachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board (HPSBB) on the occasion of “International Day for Biodiversity”, on 22nd May 2018 under the supervision of Sh. Kunal Satyarthi,  Member Secretary, HPSBB is organizing Biodiversity Week Celebration at Water Catchment Wildlife Sanctuary,  Shimla from 16th May 2018 to 20th May 2018 during which lectures, awareness campaign and information on biodiversity, its importance, need for its conservation and sustainable use of its components will be disseminated to school students from different Government and Public schools across Shimla town.

Shri Ajay Kumar, PCCF, HP Forest Department would flag off the Biodiversity week celebrations, Dr G.S. Goraya, PCCF (HoFF), Forest Department and Shri Kunal Satyarthi, MS, HP State Biodiversity Board would be the special guests during these days from 16/05/2018 to 20/05/2018 and would deliver field lectures too. It is estimated that around 250 students and 50 teachers from various public and government schools from across Shimla town over the period of 5 days would participate in nature walk

On 21st May, 2018, HP State Biodiversity Board is also organizing a Painting, Declamation and Quiz contest in Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Portmore, Shimla. Prizes to the winners of these contests/activities would be given on 22nd May 2018 on the occasion of International Day for Biodiversity celebrations at Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI), Bemloe, Shimla.
