New passport rules, apply from anywhere in India

A mobile application was also launched which is available in Android and iOS platforms that would have the facilities for applying, paying and scheduling appointments for acquiring a passport.

Passport is a hassle India, it has a long procedure and not to mention that you have to be present in your registered city to get the passport. Well with new rules, the process of getting a passport will be made simple.  Central government has been trying to ease out the procedure for acquiring important documents such as Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Passport and many others.

On the Sixth Passport Seva Divas, Sushma Swaraj, External Affairs Minister launched a new scheme under which a person can apply for a passport from anywhere in India irrespective of the place of stay.

A mobile application was also launched which is available in Android and iOS platforms that would have the facilities for applying, paying and scheduling appointments for acquiring a passport.

How to Apply for a passport from anywhere in India

Under new scheme, now a person can choose the Regional Passport Office (RPO) and the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) to submit their application

The application can be submitted irrespective of whether the person`s present residential address was within the jurisdiction of the selected RPO or not

The police verification, if required for a specific passport, would be conducted at the address specified in the application form

The passport will be printed and despatched by the RPO selected for application submission by the applicant to the address specified in the application.

For instance, a person residing of Jaipur, who is temporarily residing in Kolkata, will now be able to apply at a PSK or POPSK under the RPO, Kolkata, and will not have to travel all the way back to Jaipur to submit an application for a passport at a PSK or POPSK under the Jaipur RPO.

The app also gives information about a number of steps involved to get passport related service and where to call in case of queries or concerns

The users are able to search for a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or District Passport Cell (DPC). Citizens living overseas can find out relevant information about the Missions/Posts abroad. For certain states and districts, the users can search for Police Stations as well

Fee Calculator feature of the application enables users to find out the required fee based on the service and mode of submission

The users will have the option to track the status of their passport applications using file number and date of birth. For dispatched passports, the delivery status can also be checked.
