Army Day: A glimpse of the harsh and backbreaking life led by the men in oilve green

The army men can be spotted from a distance, they are prepared with rigorous training, with little to no sleep and bone cracking schedules. On this Army Day, let’s sneak a quick look into the hard life of men in Olive greens.

We sit with our families enjoying the summers, shivering in winters away from all the hassles and worries. But has it ever crossed your mind that while we sit, relax and enjoy there is somebody distantly placed protecting us from the absurd, curbing the foreign forces keeping our lands safe. For a life of a soldier is not like ours.  When you take over the responsibility of 1.2 billion people on your shoulder, you choose a hard life.

Seasons, dates, temperatures turn mere terms for a soldier is protecting us at the borders 16,000 feet above sea level at a temperature of -50 degrees at the Siachen Glacier, and is also battling an average temperature of 50 degrees in the blistering heat of Rajasthan.

During attacks and surgical strikes when our government representatives are openly putting up their views on national television and we are bombarding social platforms with our tweets, the actual struggle lies with the brave souls fighting for us amidst arms and annulations.

They work under extreme conditions with no proper roads and tracks for transport and little to no public support. There is not even enough drinking water and sometimes, operations require them to stay on duty for weeks on one end without any rest in between.

And for this, they are prepared with rigorous training, with little to no sleep and bone cracking exercises, the soldiers in making take the battle load to face the absurd when the time comes.

The army men can be spotted from a distance, it is because they are trained so. They are taught how to talk, walk, dress and dine. It is after the hard hitting affects they stand out with impeccable manners and astounding style.

It is not only the striking enemy but poisonous insects, natural calamities and dreadful diseases. Life is not easy for army men it’s a new challenge every day.  But these braveheart are fearless, Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, PVC 1/11, Gorkha Rifles once said, “If death strikes, before I prove my blood, I swear I`ll kill death."
