Rite Aid, facial recognition and a possible China connection – intriguing?

In telephone and email exchanges with Reuters since February, Rite Aid confirmed the existence and breadth of its facial recognition program. Last week, however, after Reuters sent its findings to the retailer, Rite Aid said it had quit using its facial recognition software. He declined to talk about Rite Aid, saying he would not discuss any possible clients. DeepCam cameras photographed and took live video of every person entering a Rite Aid store, aiming to create a unique facial profile, Rite Aid agents said. If the customer walked in front of another DeepCam facial recognition camera at a Rite Aid shop, new images were added to the person’s existing profile.
