Which Online Business Industries Are Succeeding in India During Pandemic

While most industries in India have taken a big hit during the pandemic, there are some that are succeeding, even thriving.

The Covid-19 pandemic has turned the world upside down. Millions of people have been forced to stay at home, taking away their ability to earn money so that they can take care of themselves and their families. There are tens of thousands of businesses that have closed down and governments are struggling to find ways to help these businesses to reopen their doors once the pandemic is under control.

While most industries are struggling, there are some that have found a way to thrive during the pandemic. In fact, actions and policies implemented by the government have actually helped these industries to grow.

Making a Way for Businesses

To understand why some businesses have been successful, it is important to recognize the governmental factors involved. A national shutdown where most of the 1.3 billion residents are locked in their homes means that there are people who are looking for something to do or a place where they can purchase goods. This means that digitally based businesses and services are going to thrive, and they have.

Businesses that have an outstanding technology infrastructure or who developed them early on were destined for success. Here are just a few of those industries that have found a way during this difficult time.

Online Casinos

While gambling is not legal in all states in India, there are two that allow consumers to use the online casinos to be able to gamble. Many have already become accustomed to wagering on their favorite sporting event or visiting casinos.

The availability of the online casino gave people the opportunity to play their favorite casino style games. With sporting events and leagues shut down, large numbers of people turned to these casinos as an outlet. People ended up visiting sites like www.bestcasinosites.net/india/ while searching for the best online casinos in India.  Trapped at home, it was the perfect escape. This helped this industry to boom during this time.

Digital Based Health Services

It may seem surprising to some, but there were several gyms that found a way to prosper during this time. While this may not seem like a large number in a country of 1.3 billion people, the total number of positive cases of Covid-19 in India has reached over 1.3 million as of July 25.

The risk of contracting the disease has led many to stop their normal routine, but there are still those who desire to keep themselves fit. They see the benefits of working out and maintaining their gym ritual. This is why some gyms have been smart to create apps and use IT platforms that allow customers to continue their work out.

Explained by Srividya Kannan, the founder and director at Avaali Solutions, a Bangalore-based firm that provides digital technology solutions to companies, “It`s really a huge change that has hit all of us. Obviously, we have to realign our offerings to make them most relevant to our customers at the moment.”

By offering these digital workouts, customers can maintain their physical conditioning while not having to worry about contracting the virus. Those companies that have not offered these types of services find themselves struggling, maybe even on the brink of closing permanently.

Online Retailers

Online retailers are clearly the biggest winners of all. This is especially true when the business is offering services or goods that are considered essential by consumers. Clothing, health products, hygiene products, even food are commodities that consumers can purchase online. Those businesses that offer these types of goods have been able to prosper during the pandemic.

Bengaluru-headquartered MTR Foods revealed that E-commerce sales have nearly doubled from numbers prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Consumers have adapted their habits as part of accommodating the new normal.

"E-commerce fence-sitters have changed their behavior, and their experience has not been bad or dissatisfying," said Sunay Bhasin, marketing head at the packaged food products company.

Other companies have seen a sharp increase as well. Beverage manufacturer Parle Agro saw online sales increase by more than 300% in April. The company already doing extremely well, but they believe that those numbers could easily be dwarfed. “With an increase in the number of platforms that we partner with online, we are targeting ten-fold growth," said Nadia Chauhan, joint managing director and CMO, Parle Agro.

Some Find a Way

This is really just the tip of the iceberg. While many companies are finding it difficult to prosper during this time. Those that offer essential services or who have digitally based services available are the ones that are thriving. It is a clear message to all companies that they must improve their technology so that consumers have access to their goods and services, even during a pandemic.
