Bengaluru might soon get second airport

According to the reports, in all likelihood, the airport would be built between Ramanagaram and Channapatna, possibly on the western side of Mysuru Road.

Bengaluru might soon house second airport to handle increasing air traffic by 2030. According to the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), the proposal for a new airport has been made to the state government, taking into account the future economic growth patterns, demand potential and demographic divide.

Bengaluru already has Kempegowda International Airport in its kitty, but another airport will enhance air connectivity in Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan and Harohalli. Reportedly, the Kempegowda International Airport will struggle to accommodate the increasing aviation demand by the year 2030, even after having a second terminal.

News has it that BCIC has requested the state government to look after land acquisition and development, road and rail connectivity and environmental issues. The Bengaluru–Mysuru corridor has been picked for this project as it has a good road and rail infrastructure.

According to the reports, in all likelihood, the airport would be built between Ramanagaram and Channapatna, possibly on the western side of Mysuru Road.

The BCIC report also states that local travel times are very high, thus affecting productivity and output. Bengaluru is already plagued with the issue of traffic jams during peak hours. The present airport’s northern location would work only until the traffic volume grows in the near future. Unless a second airport is established, these challenges will worsen.
