Support from my countrymen helps me perform: Rashid Khan

The teenage sensation Rashid Khan has taken the Indian Premier League has taken Indian Premier League by storm, performing tremendously in his debut season and contributing big-time for defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Afghanistan’s leg spinner so has picked up 11 wickets in eight matches and boasts an impressive economy rate of 6.59. The young lad has adjusted very well to the IPL and does not look out of place, giving that he is just 19-years old and far from his homeland. In his last match, Rashid yet dazzled the opponent, giving away just 16 runs in his allotted 4 over and picked up Eoin Morgan’s wicket. He kept his economy rate under 4 and had 14 dots balls.

Rashid Khan’s IPL2017 journey has been incredible and such consistent performance is possible if one does not have a strong support system.

"The whole of Afghanistan is watching this league. The way they are supporting us both, me and (Mohammed) Nabi, it is just amazing. The prayers of our people back home help me and whenever we have a game, they all pray for us,"  

"Their backup, their support really helps me and gives me energy," said Rashid, who hails from Nangarhar province in war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The youngster’s performance has put Afghanistan in the limelight and is setting a perfect example to countrymen back home.  Asked what his performance means for Afghan cricket, he said, "It means a lot to them because coming to this stage and performing here is a very positive message for the people of Afghanistan."

He said the message to the youngsters back home was "to work hard, do your best and you will achieve for which you have set your foot for".

"It is my message for youngsters of Afghanistan to work hard. It does not matter whether you are from Associate or another team, just do your best, you will get your achievements."

The Indian Premier League is a tournament where once is exposed to top class players and coaches and Rashid has taken this opportunity to fine-tune his game, ‘’ I have been working a lot with my coaches, especially Muttiah Muralitharan, he is the best spinner in the world. He has been helping and giving me all the confidence to just go out there and give my best."

 Playing in IPL alongside some of the big names and big coaches and getting their experience will help me a lot. I am just trying my best to get their experiences to do my best. In future, I will work hard for longer format games. Mentally I am preparing myself for that."
