Sandeep Sharma fined for showing dissent to umpire decision

Kings XI pacer Sandeep Sharma who is having a good IPL season has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for arguing and showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the IPL 2017 clash against Gujarat Lions in Mohali, during which the Punjab side were well beaten by Lions and their chances of qualifying for the play-off took a major hit.

The 23-year-old was found guilty of article 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for players. The article, in subsection h, states “arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the umpire about his decision. It shall not be a defence to any charge brought under this article to show that the umpire might have, or in fact did, get any decision wrong”.

The incident happened in the fifth over with Sandeep bowling this third over decided to switch round the wicket, umpire A Nand Kishore called no-ball as he believed that the bowler did not inform him of the change.

Due to the decision, it led to a heated confrontation between the bowler and the match official, with skipper Maxwell also jumping in and expressing his displeasure.

In a statement released by the IPL, Sandeep admitted to a level one offence and accepted the sanction. According to the IPL Code of Conduct for players and team officials, for level one breaches, the match official’s decision is final and binding.
