MS Dhoni is best wicket-keeper in the world: MSK Prasad

BCCI’s selection committee has given its weightage to experience rather giving an opportunity to fresh talent in the selection of Team India for upcoming Champions Trophy which is scheduled to kick-start from June 1.

Selection of MS Dhoni has surprised many as the former skipper is facing tough competition from newcomer wicket-keepers like Delhi’s Rishabh Pant.

Chaired by MSK Prasad, the committee has entrusted on Mahi’s vast experience in the game. MS Dhoni has recently knocked few significant innings in ongoing IPL while playing for his franchise RPS.

Mahi scored 235 runs in 12 matches, which includes a match-winning knock of 61 not out and he guided RPS captain Steve Smith to make on-field strategy during games.

When the chairman of selectors MSK Prasad was asked during the press conference over Dhoni’s pick, he replied that former skippers’ wicket keeping skills are unquestionable; we do not justice with him while we talk only on his batting forms.

“How many of us believe this fact that MSD is still the best wicket-keeper in the world? We still believe he is still the best wicket-keeper. We are only focusing on his batting form,” he defended his committee’s decision.

Highlighting the importance of Mahi, Prasad said he (Dhoni) is an invaluable asset to this team when it comes to crunch situations.
Also, Dhoni is a right person to mentor Virat, he added.

Lauding former skippers’ performance behind the wicket, the chairman cited that not many people realise that in the last 10 to 15 years that he (Dhoni) has been playing for the country, he has never had a bad day with the wicket-keeping gloves.
