Ashwin receives International Cricketer of the Year award

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has received prestigious International Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT Cricket Rating International awards 2017.

Legendary former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has conferred the spinner for his outstanding bowling performance in last 12 months in which he picked whopping 99 wickets.

Ashwin played a key role in India’s record 10 victories in 13 Tests against New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia.

While speaking at the event, jubilant Ashwin recalled the first autograph which he had taken from Gavaskar at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai.

Ashwin also praised young spinner Washington Sundar who replaced him due to injury in just concluded IPL10. The timing of the award is very crucial for Ashwin who was off the field due to injury for a long time.  His this feat ahead of Champions Trophy will boost the morale of the spinner.

The bowler has so far played 49 tests, 105 ODIs and 45 T20Is and bagged 275, 145 and 52 wickets respectively.
