If it’s your first day at college, it’s natural to feel excited and also nervous. Just last year, freshers at the Delhi University clicked selfies with their seniors to break the ice! No matter how one does it, it is important to get along with your seniors, says psychologist Srikanth Acharya. “Fresher’s Day should not be taken lightly. Seniors love juniors who are confident. So juniors must take the initiative and speak to them first. Take part in games and activities during the Fresher’s party. It’s important to substitute ego with team spirit,” he says. Institutions also play a key role. “Colleges must let seniors organise the Fresher’s day. It’s not about orientation sessions, but about interactive sessions. If everyone is given a chance to get along on the first day, it can also stop ragging,” he says, adding, “Once classes start, you can talk to seniors by taking their help when you need or they can show you the campus during a lunch break.”
