Molestation charge against CPM nominee in Tripura, angry villagers block roads

AGARTALA: Ramendra Debbarma , the CPM candidate of Takarjala tribal reserved constituency of West Tripura , was accused of 'molesting' a 52-year-old tribal lady on Tuesday. Angry villagers blocked the main road till late at night demanding his arrest. BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb said, "It is a clear indication that CPM has begun resorting to violence to set the tone for 2019 general elections. Nobody will be spared once the central government intervenes into the law and order maintenance issues." They then accused her of casting her vote for IPFT in the assembly polls and manhandled her.

Angry villagers blocked the main road till late at night demanding his arrest. SP Sudipta Das said police are investigating the case, but nobody has been arrested so far.According to the allegation, Ramendra Debbarma and one of his followers - Prembandhu Debbarma - had stormed into the house of the victim in Amtali area. They then accused her of casting her vote for IPFT in the assembly polls and manhandled her. They even threatened to kill the victim's family if the Left Front comes to power, the victim stated to the police.After the incident, hundreds of IPFT supporters blocked the Takarjala-Jampuijala road demanding the immediate arrest of the accused.Security has been stepped up to prevent violence and central paramilitary forces along with TSR jawans have been deployed in the politically volatile areas.IPFT president NC Debbarma alleged that CPM goons, led by Ramendra, had attacked the victim and ransacked her house. BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb said, "It is a clear indication that CPM has begun resorting to violence to set the tone for 2019 general elections. Nobody will be spared once the central government intervenes into the law and order maintenance issues."
