New government to hard sell Tripura as IT hub

AGARTALA: With the twin advantage of International Internet Gateway and uninterrupted power supply, the new government in Tripura would hard sell the state's potential for being an Information Technology hub , a minister said on Tuesday.Tripura launched an Information Technology (IT) Park with an expenditure of Rs 50 crore in April last year, but it is yet to draw any major investor, IT Minister Sudip Roy Barman said. It was the country's third international Internet gateway after Mumbai and Chennai.For the past two years, Tripura is a power surplus state.The state government is also considering starting campus interviews in all technical education institutes of Tripura with a view to raising a team of master-trainers for employment generation through IT, Barman said.The campus interviews could take place at National Institute of Technology, Tripura Institute of Technology, Techno India Institute, ICFAI University and others.The state government would sponsor the students selected this way for training and capacity building at Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and other cities, he said.Those students would have to sign a bond to return to the state and provide service in the state for a minimum period of five years.
