Tripura legislators donate Rs 21,000 each for flood relief

NFR chief public relations officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma said tracks along the section have been certified fit for movement of train traffic at a restricted speed of 15 km per hour. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh said on Sunday he has urged Union home minister Rajnath Singh to extend immediate assistance to those currently living in relief camps in the five valley districts.Briefing reporters while on his visit to relief camps at Maiba Khul and Mongjam village in Imphal East, Biren said it may take some time to get flood relief fund from the Centre and the immediate assistance which has been sought will cover rebuilding of damaged houses and repair of roads.Biren also said he is not attending the NITI Aayog meeting because of the hardships people of the state are facing now, but that the meeting will discuss the flood situation. He thanked consumer affairs, food and public distribution minister Karam Shyam, MLA Susindro Meitei, army personnel and police personnel for their relentless efforts in repairing breached river embankments. He also appealed to the people to take precautionary measures from post-flood diseases.Biren also expressed his gratitude for The All Manipur Government Aided College Teachers' Association, which donated Rs 1,00,000 towards the CM's Relief Fund.In Tripura, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said MLAs of the ruling BJP-IPFT coalition donated Rs 21,000 each to the state's flood relief fund, as decided at the legislative party meeting ahead of the upcoming budget session. He said, "We had a detailed discussion on the devastating flood situation of Tripura and MLAs were requested to be extra vigilant about administrative functioning in the crisis situation."The government has posted new subdivisional magistrates in Kailashahar and Kumarghat. The government has suspended the two previous SDMs for 'dereliction of duty'. SDM (Kailashahar) Keshab Kar has been replaced by additional SDM Sonamura Asim Saha while SDM (Kumarghat) Jayanta Debbarma has been replaced by additional SDM of Bishalgarh Sandip Chakraborty. Flood-affected people in the worst-affected Unokoti district have allegedly complained of inadequate supply of relief materials and carelessness of the administration in the distribution.Senior officials led by revenue secretary Manoj Kumar have been supervising the relief and post-disaster management activities in the district. Immediate cash relief of Rs 2000 were given to each family lodged in the camps, besides, food and other amenities," the officials said.Health minister Sudip Roy Barman said a special medical team along with medicines and sanitary items has been sent to the affected areas.The water level of all rivers have receded in the past 24 hours and most plain areas are not waterlogged any more.
