Tripura HC notice to govt for not allowing INPT to demonstrate

The government counsel apprised the court that permission to INPT was not given because the prevailing law and order situation had not been favourable. According to INPT leaders, the party has been fighting for long to protect the life, culture and tradition of the indigenous people of the state. The programme was peaceful and it was all about the demands for development of the state, he said. The court scheduled the next hearing on July 19.INPT President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawal said they had to approach the high court after police refused to grant them permission to continue its proposed agitation in the capital city scheduled to be held on June 28. The court then asked the state to submit an affidavit detailing the law and order situation of the state while INPT was directed to submit the affidavit with proof as to who else except INPFT was given permission for agitation and demonstration during the period.

AGARTALA: The Tripura high court issued a notice to the state government after hearing a writ petition of Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra ( INPT ) on not allowing the party to hold a sit-in demonstration in Agartala last week.In the petition, INPT said police did not allow the party to exercise their democratic rights, though other parties, including CPM, were allowed to hold protests on several occasions after the new government came to power.Chief Justice Ajay Rastogi has issued the notice seeking a reply within a week from the state. "By rejecting the permission, the government proved they are not democratic," Hrangkhawal said.The INPT has been demanding a National Register of Citizen ( NRC ) in the state to identify the foreign nationals as per the Constitution and directions of the Supreme Court. According to INPT leaders, the party has been fighting for long to protect the life, culture and tradition of the indigenous people of the state.
