Tripura, Meghalaya governors sworn in

SHILLONG/AGARTALA: Kaptan Singh Solanki and Tathagata Roy were sworn-in as the governors of Tripura and Meghalaya respectively on Saturday. After the oath-taking ceremony, he was accorded the guard of honour by Tripura State Rifles jawans on the palace ground. I am ready to extend my service to the people of the state and to the government as well." Roy has succeeded Ganga Prasad who has been asked to take charge of Sikkim.Solanki, a professor-turned politician, arrived in Agartala from Delhi later in the morning.

SHILLONG/AGARTALA: Kaptan Singh Solanki and Tathagata Roy were sworn-in as the governors of Tripura and Meghalaya respectively on Saturday. While Meghalaya high court chief justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir administered the oath of office and secrecy to Roy at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong , Solanki was administred the oath by Tripura HC chief justice Ajoy Rastogi at the Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala Speaking to the media after the swearing-in ceremony, Roy stressed on improving the public transport system to ease traffic snarls in the city. Chief minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma, along with several cabinet ministers, top police officials, heads of armed forces and senior government officers, were present at Roy's oath-taking ceremony.A former professor of construction engineering at Jadavpur University, Roy was the president of the West Bengal unit of the BJP from 2002 to 2006. The 73-year-old veteran politician was also a swayamsevak. Roy has succeeded Ganga Prasad who has been asked to take charge of Sikkim.Solanki, a professor-turned politician, arrived in Agartala from Delhi later in the morning. He was welcomed by CM Biplab Kumar Deb and his cabinet membersat the airport. After the oath-taking ceremony, he was accorded the guard of honour by Tripura State Rifles jawans on the palace ground. Talking to the media, Solanki said, "The Constitution has mandated the governor to ensure equality, liberty and fraternity in society and also ensure good governance for the people. I am committed to doing it."He added, "Getting a scope to serve the most resourceful NE state is my privilege and I am happy to get the assignment. I am ready to extend my service to the people of the state and to the government as well." Solanki mentioned.
