Tripura man held for Facebook post against Mamata Banerjee

AGARTALA: A court on Monday sent a local youth, who had been arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Facebook, to judicial custody for five days. The accused, Tushar Sharma, was arrested on Sunday from the Thakur Palli area of Kulai in Dhalai district.Police said Sharma had made derogatory comments against Banerjee in an FB post on August 14, following which minister Bratya Basu registered a complaint at Bidhannagar police station in Kolkata on August 17. After Bengal police got in touch with Ambassa police station, Sharma was arrested from his village on Sunday.Though Bidhannagar Police wanted to bring Sharma to Kolkata on a five-day transit remand, the Ambassa court turned down the request, granting a reprieve to the accused on grounds of illness.
