FIR against 16 teachers for obtaining jobs with fake certs

AGARTALA: The state education department has lodged an FIR against 16 graduate and post-graduate teachers, accusing them of obtaining jobs with fake academic certificates in government-run schools of the state.The case was filed against the teachers after the government decided to ensure probity in government services. "I personally urged all the accused to voluntarily return the offer letters. We found that 16 teachers did not return the offer and rather joined service," said Nath.The FIR was filed under sections 466 and 471 of the IPC. Altogether 132 complaints were received by the department and all of them were sent to the respective institutions and universities for verification. If the allegations are proved, the accused are liable to be imprisoned for 7 years along with fine.

After assuming office in March this year, the BJP-IPFT government had given appointment letters to 885 graduate and 125 post-graduate teachers after they cleared the Teachers' Eligibility Test.The department has received a number of complaints against the selected candidates for possessing fake BEd certificates from various institutions outside the state, said education minister Ratan Lal Nath. Altogether 132 complaints were received by the department and all of them were sent to the respective institutions and universities for verification."I personally urged all the accused to voluntarily return the offer letters. A good number of them responded while seeking pardon for the mistake and we excused them. In the meantime, certificate verification reports from the institutions have reached us. We found that 16 teachers did not return the offer and rather joined service," said Nath.The FIR was filed under sections 466 and 471 of the IPC. If the allegations are proved, the accused are liable to be imprisoned for 7 years along with fine.
