Three new varieties of pulses invented in Tripura

AGARTALA: The Tripura centre of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has developed three new varieties pulses which, according to scientists, could revolutionize the quality of pulses and help boost production.Addressing a seminar on pulses in Tripura University , Pulse Research Centre (Kanpur) head Dr NP Singh revealed that ICAR scientists have invented three local varieties of pulses - Tripura Moong, Tripura Maskalai and TRCP-9 (motordal). "In the last three to four years, India made a remarkable achievement in the field of pulse production. This is because production of pulses in India has increased by 30% in the last three years," Singh said. While three years ago, pulses cost Rs 200 to 300 per kg, the prices have now come down to Rs 50 to 60 per kg. These new pulses will soon be distributed among farmers for commercial cultivation.

All formalities have been completed following which the Centre has issued a notification on the innovation.
