AGARTALA: Congress president Rahul Gandhi launched the Lok Sabha election campaign for Tripura at Khumulung, headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council, on Wednesday."Whatever the Modi government has done in the past five years was to support the rich people and the corporate sector. Congress, on the other hand, has a record of a series of programmes like MGNREGA for the poor and marginalized sections of the society," he said.Confident that a Congress-led government will come to power this time, he added that no poll promise was fulfilled by the government and things have become tough for people under BJP rule across the country."Before the last Lok Sabha election, BJP had promised to provide two crore job annually for the youths. Five years on, people want to know how many jobs the Modi-led government has provided so far. The BJP government in Tripura has not yet been able provide job for 7.5 lakh unemployed and no one is happy under BJP's rule," the Congress president said."If Congress comes in power we shall implement minimum income guarantee scheme for the poor unemployed in the country. We had promised to prevent Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and we did it in Rajya Sabha. Congress will not allow such bill in the country," he added. As he said in Arunachal Pradesh and, later in the day, in Manipur , he said Congress would bring back the special category status for northeastern states "to facilitate fast-paced development of the region".President of the Tripura unit of Congress, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman however, said there is no fundamental difference between Communist rule and BJP's rule. "None of these parties have democracy inside," he said, adding , "The government functions with the whims and wills of a person and leaders were not treated with dignity. I must say the present government here is bureaucratic and to protect corrupts and criminals."Debbarman also said that BJP's vice-president Subal Bhowmik, who was second in command, had to leave the party because of the autocratic attitude of leaders. "The BJP doesn't honour its leaders and workers. The one year rule of BJP proved there is no power no dignity or voice of ministers and MLAs. Congress's door is now open to politicians to come here and do politics with dignity," Debbarman added.
