Apart from myriad of domestic animals, cats occupy a coveted place in almost all of the households of the North-easterners. Irrespective of the ethnic communities or the tribal folks, cats in all varieties are seen hovering around the kitchens of most of the households in the Northeast. Like all inhabitants of the Northeast, cats are also die hard fans of fresh fish, dry fish and all ethnic cuisines that the region boast of. But why we are talking about cats today? Today is International Cats Day. International Cat Day is a celebration which takes place on August 8, every year. It was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. International Cat Day is also referred to as World Cat Day in some countries and since its inception. It has been growing worldwide. While most countries now observe this unofficial holiday on August 8, Russia celebrates National Cat Day on March 1 and the US celebrate both International Cat Day and their own National Cat Day on October 29. International Cat Day is a day to raise awareness for our feline friends and learn about ways to help and protect them. Cat Day is another unofficial Cat Holiday observed on February 22, that originated in Japan. It has become a social media sensation and is growing worldwide as people across the globe share the cat pictures and videos. But are cats domestic animals? Surprisingly, cats are not fully domestic animals. These felines have come in contact with human beings and started dwelling in households. But cats, unlike dogs may not remain loyal to their masters and might venture out for good in search of greener pastures. But if you have a cat or a fleet of them, love them, pamper them and take care of them as long as they are with you. Happy World Cat Day.
