IPFT calls for Tripura tribal areas bandh on Dec 9 against CAB

The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) has given a 12-hour bandh call on December 9 in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) area protesting Citizenship (Amendment Bill). “We have called the bandh in protest against CAB on December 9, 2019 from 6 am to 6 pm across the TTAADC areas in the state. We have appealed to all sections of people of the state to extend their support to the proposed bandh,” IPFT leader Mangal Debbarma told reporters on Saturday. Earlier on December 5 also, the IPFT, called a dawn-to-dusk bandh in TTADC areas on December 5 seeking withdrawal of the citizensip bill. Normal life was affected in the TTADC areas during a bandh.

The IPFT is an ally of the BJP-led government in Tripura. He said that except the BJP all the political parties of Northeast are opposing this Bill. Debbarma said they have also demanded introduction of NRC all over the India and settlement of Bru refugee issue. Business establishments and shops remained closed, while most schools did not open due to the strike
