Along with the rest of the country, Tripura also celebrated Makar Sankranti, which is also known as Poush Sankranti, on Wednesday. The people of the state took holy bath in rivers and other water sources across the state. The people offered tarpan to their ancestors on the occasion of Poush Sankranti. Tripura chief minister Biplab Kr Deb greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. On Tuesday night, Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and his wife Niti Deb offered puja at Tirthamukh of Gomoti district on the occasion of Poush Sankranti. He also took a dip at Tirthamukh in the wee hours before puja. Fairs were organized on the occasion of Poush Sankranti in different parts of the state. Cultural programes were also organized on the occasion. Poush Mela was organised at Tirthamukh in the Gomoti district. On Tuesday night, two-day Tirthamukh Mela was inaugurated by Tripura CM Deb. On the eve of Makar Sankranti performed puja and aarti to maa Ganga at Tirthamukh. However, lakhs of devotees gathered today to take a holy dip in the river on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti.” “This Mela, truly highlights the essence of Indian custom and civilization,” he added. On the occasion of Poush Sankranti, every family prepared a sweet dish, which is known as Pitha.
