The Tripura government has decided to exempt fees of school/college students partially. Notably, the move is will be a great relief for the students and the guardians. Earlier the State Government appealed to all the private schools and colleges not to increase the fees for this year. Now the State Government is exempting fees for the government-run schools and colleges. Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the decision on exemption of fees has been taken considering the COVID-19 situation. The education minister said schools and other educational institutions across the State would not reopen for the time being. The State Government formed a committee with the educationists, experts, former education officers and education minister, senior journalists and leaders of student outfits such as ABVP, NSUI and SFI. It was earlier said the committee will decide when and how the schools and colleges will reopen. The committee sat in a meeting on Wednesday. Everybody of that committee has suggested to the State Government not to take any risk to open the schools and colleges in this crucial period, informed state education minister Ratan Lal Nath. Nath said this decision was taken by the 39-member committee, constituted by the state government. The meeting decided unanimously to postpone the reopening of educational institutions for the time being in view of the current COVID-19 situation. But the State Government will further tone up the system of imparting online classes by incorporating new methods, the minister added. The education minister also said the State Government had exempted all 5,92,247 school students from payment of different kinds of fees at the rate of Rs 30 and 35 per month.
