CPI M MLAs stage protest against ruling BJP government in Tripura

CPI(M) MLAs have come out to protest in Agartala against the frequent attacks on leaders and party workers of opposition parties. The CPI(M) MLAs on Wednesday organized a protest rally from the party office in Agartala and also staged a demonstration, demanding action against the miscreants who carried out the attacks on opposition party leaders and works. They alleged that attacks on opposition leaders have been orchestrated by the ruling BJP state government. Manik Sarkar and other CPI(M) MLAs had met the Tripura Governor on January 18, seeking his intervention into the matter relating to increasing attacks on leaders and supporters of opposition parties across the state. CPIM MLA and former minister Badal Choudhury appealed to everyone to stand against ruling BJP government.

Former Tripura chief minister and leader of the opposition, Manik Sarkar, MLAs Badal Chowdhury, Tapan Chakraborty, Bhanu Lal Saha, Nirmal Biswas, Islamuddin, Mabaswar Ali, Prabhat Chowdhury, Sahid Chowdhury, Bijita Nath, Sudhan Das, Ratan Bhowmik, Jasbir Tripura, Narayan Choudhury, Shyamal Chakraborty walked through the streets with placards around their necks. They called on the people of the state to come forward against the ruling BJP government in Tripura Leaders from other political parties of the party also took part in the demonstration. Manik Sarkar and other CPI(M) MLAs had met the Tripura Governor on January 18, seeking his intervention into the matter relating to increasing attacks on leaders and supporters of opposition parties across the state. Also read: Tripura: Manik Sarkar-led CPI-M delegation meets CM Biplab Deb, demands absorption of sacked teachers Manik Sarkar said, “In the last three years I could not visit my assembly constituency Dhanpur and interact with the people there.” Sarkar said he had been restricted from visiting different places in the state for about 17-18 times in the past three years. “I was the CM for 20 years and never did anything that went against the people,” he said. CPIM MLA and former minister Badal Choudhury appealed to everyone to stand against ruling BJP government. On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty refuted the claims of the CPI(M). Chakraborty said that no murder of any opposition leader has taken place during the tenure of the present BJP-IPFT government in Tripura. “The CPI(M) has lost its base among the people of the state, which is why it is resorting to such political activities,” he said.
