Childline police rescue 11 girls including minors from ISBT in Agartala

A joint team of Childline and East Agartala Police on Wednesday recovered 11 girls including 9 minors from Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The girls were taken to Agartala from the Reang refugee camp in Kanchanpur. A man of the Reang refugee camp took them out of the camp with an assurance to their parents that their daughters would be engaged in jobs in Agartala. Sangeeta Barui, a Childline worker, informed that some people at ISBT on suspicion apprehended the person, who took the girls along with the girls. The incident has brought to light the poor economic condition of the inmates of the Reang refugee camp at Kalyanpur.

The girls were taken to Agartala from the Reang refugee camp in Kanchanpur. It has been alleged that the girls were taken to be engaged as housemaids. A man of the Reang refugee camp took them out of the camp with an assurance to their parents that their daughters would be engaged in jobs in Agartala. Sangeeta Barui, a Childline worker, informed that some people at ISBT on suspicion apprehended the person, who took the girls along with the girls. The people suspected that the man might be involved in trafficking and brought the girls for that purpose. Barui said the locals informed the police and Childline regarding the girls. The man revealed that he took the girls to get them engaged in different households as maidservants. Childline member Barui said they have called the parents and handed over the girls to the Social Welfare department. The incident has brought to light the poor economic condition of the inmates of the Reang refugee camp at Kalyanpur. It is also a known fact that human traffickers take advantage of the condition of refugees and sell poor children in return of huge money.
