The Tripura bus owners association has called for a bus strike across Tripura with effect from Friday (February 26). The organization has demanded that the bus fare be incrased by the state government across the state. The Tripura bus owners union is currently under the control of the ruling BJPs workers organization, BMS. The bus owners in a news conference on Friday said they had to face extreme trouble during Coronavirus pandemic. And now, the rising prices of petrol and diesel have added trouble. On February 6, the bus owners body submitted a memorandum to the Tripura government demanding an increase in the bus fare. They set a time limit of 15 days to the government to increase the fare. After the deadline expired on the February 21, they again gave the government four more days to fulfil their bus fares in Tripura. But the government did not listen to their plea. “So, having no other option, we have decided to go for the strike. From Friday, buses will be off the roads for an indefinite period in Tripura,” the bus owners said. However, the commuters, who regularly travel by bus, have expressed grave concern over the decision. One of the commuters said, “The buses cannot be dtopped in such a hurry. The government should look into the matter. The problem can be solved through a dialogue between the bus owners and thegovernment. But the ordinary passengers should not suffer.”
