Agartala: Two Tripura orphanages turn Covid clusters, 36 girls infected

36 girls living in two orphanages in Tripura`s capital Agartala have tested positive for Covid-19. Their age is between five years and 16 years. A senior official said that their condition is stable and they are kept under isolation in the orphanage itself.

State Education Minister Ratanlal Nath said that 32 girls of Jawaharlal Nehru Girls Home in Narsinghgarh and four girls of Ujan Abhoynagar Children`s Home have been found infected with Covid-19. A girl who fell ill at the Jawaharlal Nehru Girls Home tested positive for COVID-19. After conducting tests, 31 more children were found to be coronavirus positive," Nath, who is also the Cabinet spokesperson, said.

The minister said that the girls at Ujan Abhoynagar Children`s Home were also tested for Covid-19 later, where four positive cases were found.

The Tripura High court has directed the state government to increase the pace of Covid-19 testing at government Orphanages and jails after the news of 36 girls testing positive for Covid-19 came to light.
