The former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar has accused the BJP of preventing the CPI (M) workers in the state from helping those who are in crisis due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Manik Sarkar specifically mentioned the incident where a CPI (M) worker was allegedly beaten up by BJP workers in the Fultali village of Kailashahar in the Unokoti district of Tripura when he was returning home after sanitizing a local market.

The CPI (M) worker was allegedly forced to chant "Jai Shri Ram" by BJP workers. Manik Sarkar said, "If Sri Rama had been alive now, he would have hanged himself after seeing this kind of behaviour among his followers." Former Tripura CM Manik Sarkar was speaking at a blood donation camp organized by the SFI and DYFI Ramnagar Zone Committee at the Yuva Bhavan in Agartala.

Criticizing the BJP-government in the state, the former Tripura Chief Minister said that such inhuman acts are a sign of fear, isolation and weakness of the ruling party. Manik Sarkar said that the workers of the Left parties are being attacked while they are trying to keep the people of the state safe in Corona time. Manik Sarkar said, "Workers of the Left parties are facing one attack after another, even when they are working for the common people."

The government said that "the ruling party and the head of the state government are yet to react to the Kailashahar incident." The government alleged that ruling party activists and police prevented CPI-M`s youth volunteers at several places in Agartala from distributing food and household items to the victims` families.
