Taking inspiration from China and Japan, a tribal entrepreneur from Tripura has prepared a refreshing drink from bamboo leaves and named it `Bamboo Leaf Tea`. Businessmen from other states are also ready to market this product in India and abroad. Samir Jamatia, 36, a resident of the remote village of Garji in Gomti district, is an expert of bamboo technology and has spent many years in China while working in this profession and has also travelled to Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia.
He studied the process of preparing the said drink in depth. Jamatia said that this drink is rich in anti-oxidant and anti-biotic properties. He said that even tea enthusiasts and businessmen and exporters of Tamil Nadu have shown interest in it. Jamatia has worked with the National Bamboo Mission and the Bamboo Society of India in the past. Trained in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan and India, Jamatia has been involved with several innovative bamboo-based products, like bamboo rice.
He said that tea samples of bamboo leaves have been purchased by traders in Delhi and Madurai. He said, “Five hundred kilograms of tea has been supplied to an exporter from Delhi who is marketing it abroad. A trader from Madurai came to Tripura and stayed here for three days and understood the process of construction. They also want to export this tea to Britain and Germany. " He told that at present the price of one kg of tea of ​​bamboo leaves is 120 rupees.
