Three people were allegedly lynched by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Tripura`s Khowai district in the early hours of Sunday

Three people were allegedly lynched by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Tripura`s Khowai district in the early hours of Sunday. Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar said that the villagers of Namanjoypara saw a mini truck carrying five cattle going towards Agartala at around 4.30 am. They followed them and stopped the vehicle near Uttar Maharanipur village.

A Mob of villagers suddenly started beating these three people. All three people were beaten up with deadly weapons. One of these youth somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the crowd but he was soon caught back near Mungiyakam a tribal area near North Maharanipur, and brutally thrashed.

SP Kiran Kumar said that the police immediately reached both places and first took them to the nearest hospital. They were then admitted to the Agartala Government Medical College where doctors declared them brought dead.

Police said that a case has been registered and an investigation is going on. No arrest has been made yet. The deceased have been identified as Zayed Hussain (30), Bilal Mian (28) and Saiful Islam (18) and all residents of the Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district.
