Tripura: BJP's ally IPFT demands the creation of a separate tribal state Tipraland

A delegation led by State Forest Minister and IPFT General Secretary Mewar Kumar Jamatia met Shah on Thursday and submitted a five-point memorandum.

A four-member delegation of the ruling BJP`s ally Indigenous People`s Front of Tripura (IPFT) met Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and demanded the creation of Tipraland from the existing Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). It covers two-thirds of the state`s land area.

A delegation led by State Forest Minister and IPFT General Secretary Mewar Kumar Jamatia met Shah on Thursday and submitted a five-point memorandum.

Apart from the demand for a full state named Tipraland, the memorandum included a presentation of a report by the High-Level Resource Committee for the development of tribes, running a special employment campaign for the natives, amending the Sixth Schedule to further strengthen the TTAADC and the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. There has been a demand to include the tribal language Kokborok in the schedule. Tribal people constitute about one third of the total population of the state.
