  • | Monday | 3rd July, 2017

He reiterated that he was not involved in Rose Valley or any other scam. This shows the nervousness of CPM about the Rose Valley issue. "Goutam Das was the editor of their party mouthpiece for many years and enjoyed the privileges of a journalist. Before coming, CBI sent me a notice for recording the statement as a witness of a case. "The CBI inspector has issued me a certificate stating I had cooperated in the investigation.

AGARTALA: Two weeks before interrogating social welfare minister Bijita Nath in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund scam last week, CBI had questioned CPM central committee member and party spokesperson Goutam Das in relation to the same case.Reacting to media reports, Goutam Das issued a statement on Sunday which said CBI officials contacted him from Kolkata on June 15 seeking a convenient schedule to record his statement in connection with the Rose Valley case, involving duping of investors. On the next day, an additional superintendent of police and an inspector of CBI questioned him at the office of the party mouthpiece, Daily Desherkatha, and recorded his statement under section 160 of CrPC in presence of his lawyer, Das stated. He reiterated that he was not involved in Rose Valley or any other scam."The CBI inspector has issued me a certificate stating I had cooperated in the investigation. Before coming, CBI sent me a notice for recording the statement as a witness of a case. But I am surprised how it was leaked to media because neither me nor my advocate divulged it to anybody," Das said. The new revelation and Das's statement has triggered reactions in political circles while the CPM has not reacted to it. BJP and Trinamool Congress demanded that CBI expedite the process of investigation to ensure the return of the deposits of 14 lakh victims who fell into the Rose Valley trap.BJP state vice-president Subal Bhowmik said, "The statement of Das has proved that CBI has given importance to the case and with this the involvement of CPM party with chit fund companies is established."Out of 40 lakh people in the state, CBI chose a top CPM leader and minister for investigation in the case, something which indicates CBI is moving in the right track to catch the actual culprits, said Trinamool Congress legislator Sudip Roy Barman. "Goutam Das was the editor of their party mouthpiece for many years and enjoyed the privileges of a journalist. Even then he is questioning how it was leaked to media. This shows the nervousness of CPM about the Rose Valley issue. We feel CBI has to prioritize the case to expose CPM's link with ponzy firms," Roy Barman said. The TMC MLA added that Das had been suspected for a long time to exploit his role as a journalist to have links with unscrupulous elements in Bangladesh, fraudulent companies and several non-banking financial companies. "Das is needed to be grilled extensively to verify all the allegations raised against him for past many years and the party has to clear its stand over the allegations against him," Roy Barman said.
