Northeast feels the heat as monsoon clouds clear

On Saturday, the maximum temperature recorded was 36.4°C, which was 4.2°C above normal. The upper Assam town of North Lakhimpur recorded the highest temperature in the region at 36.6°C. Pasighat and Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh came close with 36.4°C and 36.5°C respectively on Saturday. Dibrugarh (36°C), Silchar (34.3°C), Tezpur (33.8°C) and Jorhat (35.9°C) also recorded high temperatures on Saturday.The Met department said the region can expect some relief in the next couple of days. "Sunday onwards, the region is likely to get a little relief as rains will lash many parts of the northeast. Unless rain appears, the temperature will continue to rise," an IMD official said.The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of IMD based in Guwahati predicted heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 8 and 9 over Arunachal Pradesh.Available data indicate that light to moderate rain occurred at most places over Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura, at many places over Meghalaya and Manipur and at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam with isolated heavy falls over Assam and Mizoram in the last 24 hours. According to the RMC weather forecast, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur on Sunday over Assam and Meghalaya, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over the two states from August 7 to 9.Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur at isolated places on Sunday and Monday and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur on August 8 over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
