NLFT may back IPFT in 2018 polls: Tripura CM Manik Sarkar

AGARTALA: Chief minister Manik Sarkar on Wednesday told the assembly that intelligence reports suggest the proscribed militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura NLFT ) will lend support to the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) in the upcoming assembly elections. "After NLFT's request, the Centre held three tripartite talks with the outfit and involved the Tripura government. "Tripura has established peace after two decades of terrorism, but if the insurgents extend support to a political party, it would be dangerous for the state," Sarkar said. He urged the Centre to resume talks with militant outfits who have hideouts in Bangladesh. However, over the past several months, there has been no progress," he added.The chief minister's statement drew sharp reactions from legislators.
