Agra: Way cleared for development of super speciality wing at SNMC

In this context, the government has decided to set up a super specialty wing at the Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC) here. AGRA: State cabinet minister for technical and medical education Ashutosh Tandon on Sunday said quality medical services will be provided at affordable rates. He said patients at SNMC will be able to get generic and branded medicines at affordable rates through Amrit Pharmacy. Through this medical reports, availability of medicines, appointment with doctors can be checked online. The wing is likely to be ready in three years.

AGRA: State cabinet minister for technical and medical education Ashutosh Tandon on Sunday said quality medical services will be provided at affordable rates. In this context, the government has decided to set up a super specialty wing at the Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC) here. The institute will be providing specialized medical services in cardiology, urology, endocrinology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, nephrology, rheumatology and medical oncology.Giving details, Tandon said on February 25, he will be signing a memorandum of understanding with Union cabinet minister for health and family JP Nadda for setting up the super specialty wing at SNMC. The project will cost Rs 200 crore and will be borne by both state and Centre under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.Tandon reached the SN Medical College on Sunday afternoon and conducted spot inspection of the old out patient department (OPD) where the super specialty wing is proposed to be set in an area spanning 2,000 square metres. The wing is likely to be ready in three years. It will have a 260-bed capacity and a 52-bed intensive care unit, said SNMC principal Saroj Singh.To address the issue of shortage of experienced doctors, the minister said the state government has sent a proposal to the Medical Council of India (MCI) to extend the retirement age of doctors from 65 years to 70 years. Besides, all undergraduate and post-graduate students in government medical colleges will have to compulsorily serve in rural areas for at least one year.The minister said, including SNMC state government-run medical college in Jhansi, Meerut, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, JK Cancer Institute and Institute of Cardiology in Kanpur will be incorporating e-hospital information system from August onwards. Through this medical reports, availability of medicines, appointment with doctors can be checked online. He said patients at SNMC will be able to get generic and branded medicines at affordable rates through Amrit Pharmacy. The facility will start operating in next two months.
