Agra: The Agra Municipal Corporation ( AMC ) administration is working on a plan to set up a vigilance wing to check irregularities in the civic body and put a tab on malpractices in its different departments. The wing will not only deal with cases of corruption but also look after discipline in its offices. Mayor Naveen Jain will soon place the proposal with the state government.According to the mayor, the vigilance wing will record the presence of employees in office and also keep an eye on their way of dealing with the public. A vigilance officer will have the right to check official documents and question an official or any other employee in case of an irregularity. Members of the wing may also check the quality of construction works or that of any other project. They will also be authorized to check the movement of unauthorized elements inside AMC premises.According to the mayor, retired army men will be preferred for the posts of vigilance officers. Speaking to TOI, he said, “Work on the formation of a vigilance wing is in process. The main aim is to put a tab on corruption in the civic body and secure public interest. Vigilance officers will look into all complaints regarding malpractices, look for evidence in cases and submit a fact-finding report. These reports will be acted on in time and errant officials will be pulled up.”
