Agra: Government Railway Police (GRP), Uttar Pradesh has planned to launch an inter-state drive against crime on board from the next month, where wanted criminals will be arrested and prosecuted. In this regard additional director general, GRP, BK Maurya chaired a meeting with railway police officials of six states, in Agra, on Wednesday. This is for the first time the state GRP had called for a coordination meeting with multiple states.Besides UP, the interstate coordination meeting which took place at the circuit house was participated by superintendents and circle officers from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh. These are the states from where trains frequently operate in UP.During the meeting, the ADG emphasized on the need for police station level coordination among different states and districts to put an effective tab on crimes in trains. Other important factors were identified as taking efforts to not delay registering of FIR and proactive communication with passengers. The senior officer said, “Crime in trains is now not restricted to the type of coaches. There is a surge in number of theft cases taking place in AC coaches. Criminals now take reservations to operate in trains. They look like decent passengers and act in a very professional manner. We have discussed case studies in this regard with officers in order to promote vigilance on duty.”Speaking on cases involving unauthorized vendors, ADG said, it is a matter of major concern.“The number of authorized vendors on stations in UP is less than one fourth of the standard requirement. This allows space for unauthorized vendors to operate. In this regard a letter has been sent to chairman of railway board,” he added.
