AMC become first civic body in UP to implement zonal commissionerate system

Agra: Agra Municipal Corporation ( AMC ) has become the first civic body in the state to implement zonal commissionerate system. Following this, four senior officers were assigned the responsibility of zonal commissioners.The mayor told TOI, “AMC will be the first civic body in UP to implement zonal commissionerate system. From now on, city residents will not have to make rounds of the civic body’s main office to get their problems resolved. Each of the four zonal commissioners will be responsible for all matters in their area regarding maintenance of sanitation and hygiene, recovery of taxes and matters related to it, street lighting, maintenance of vehicles, parks, action against encroachments, etc.”Joint municipal commissioner Vinod Kumar Gupta has been made zonal commissioner for Chatta, assistant municipal commissioner Anupam Shukla will look after Hariparwat zone, chief engineer (civil) Tarun Sharma will be zonal commissioner for Lohamandi ward, chief engineer (electricity and mechanics) Sanjay Katiyar for Tajganj zone. The main objective behind this move is to address public grievances in a time-bound manner.

Each of the four zones in the city will have a zonal commissioner, who will have administrative as well as financial powers.For now, four senior officers of the AMC have been assigned the additional responsibility of zonal commissioner.Last year, ahead of the civic body elections, 10 new municipal wards were constituted, taking the total number of wards in the city to 100. Besides, the population of the city has significantly increased in the past few years. With the increase in wards and population, AMC had been experiencing problems in proper monitoring of services and development works, besides addressing public complains.In his public interactions, mayor Naveen Jain had been receiving complaints concerning lack of proper management. Residents alleged that their complaints were not addressed even after long delays. In some cases, complainants were allegedly made to run around from one office to another.After a month of planning and discussing the idea with experts, the mayor ordered the division of city into four zones having 25 wards each. Following this, four senior officers were assigned the responsibility of zonal commissioners.The mayor told TOI, “AMC will be the first civic body in UP to implement zonal commissionerate system.
