Attempt to murder case against AMU student for threatening journalist

Agra: Police on Thursday registered a case of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation against Aligarh Muslim University student Mohammad Nadeem Ansari based on a complaint by senior journalist Jasim Mohammad.The SHO of Civil Lines police station, Vinod Kumar, said that a case has been registered against the student and an unknown person under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 341 (wrongful restraint), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground religion), 147 (rioting) and 148 (armed with deadly weapons).According to the complainant, who is the bureau chief of a national daily and earlier worked as AMU media advisor, on Monday when he went to meet the university spokesperson, Professor Shafey Kidwai, a group of armed students, including Ansari, arrived there and asked him to leave the PRO’s office.Jasim said that he tried to explain the reason for his presence, but Ansari did not listen to him and instead misbehaved with him.
