4 from Kanpur killed as car rams into truck on Yamuna eway

Agra: Four persons from Kanpur were killed when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a parked truck near milestone 113 on Yamuna expressway in Mathura district on Sunday.According to police, the accident happened at around 9 am when the tyre of the speeding Delhi-bound car burst and the vehicle rammed into a truck parked on the service lane.The deceased were identified as Mohammad Moinuddin, a resident of Ahmad Nagar, and Abdul Raes and his mother Shahjahan Begum, both residents of Mirpur Cantt area. The identity of another victim could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report. On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem.Prabal Singh, circle officer of Mahavan, said, “The car was speeding when its tyre burst and the driver lost control. The vehicle then rammed into a truck parked on the service lane. We have detained the truck driver and informed the victims’ relatives. The impact of the accident was such that the car crumbled into half. It took us nearly 30 minutes to retrieve the bodies.”In July alone, 12 persons have been killed in accidents on Yamuna expressway.According to a recent RTI reply given by Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), speeding was identified as a major factor behind accidents on the stretch. Out of 4,956 accidents that happened between August 16, 2012 and March 31, 2018, 1,161 were caused by speeding.
