ExCM Akhilesh Yadav visits Sheroes assures help to develop a larger cafeacute

During his tenure as the UP chief minister, Yadav had helped the non-profit organization ‘Stop Acid Attacks’ to open the Sheroes Hangout café in Lucknow. He also said that a larger café would be built if his party is voted back to power in the coming elections. The eatery management had earlier said that it would go for crowdfunding measures to relocate the restaurant if the state government does not extend help. The demolition has left no space for visitors to park their vehicles outside the restaurant, affecting its business severely.The SP chief reached Sheroes around 2 pm and was welcomed by a group of survivors. Plans were also afoot to develop a similar restaurant in Noida.

Agra: Three days after former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav went on Twitter to blame the Uttar Pradesh government for its “unjustified” demolition of Sheroes Hangout café, the Samajwadi Party chief visited the small restaurant on Tuesday and assured the acid attack survivors of help in relocating the eatery. He also said that a larger café would be built if his party is voted back to power in the coming elections. Yadav expressed his willingness to provide all possible help to the eight survivors whose livelihood depends on the café.The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) had, last Wednesday, bulldozed a part of the restaurant for broadening of the Fatehabad road under its smart city project. The eatery management had earlier said that it would go for crowdfunding measures to relocate the restaurant if the state government does not extend help. The demolition has left no space for visitors to park their vehicles outside the restaurant, affecting its business severely.The SP chief reached Sheroes around 2 pm and was welcomed by a group of survivors. Manager of the café, Rupa (who goes by her first name), along with two other workers – Shabnam and Madhu – informed Yadav about the municipality’s action and the tough conditions under which they have been forced to operate.“We will provide the best possible space to develop a larger café, just like the one in Lucknow. A permanent place will also be allotted to the restaurant under the Agra Street Café project, which was one of the tourism initiatives proposed by the former SP regime,” said Yadav.Before leaving, he told the survivors: “Promise me that you will not lose courage.”“We are glad that the former CM came to meet us. He has assured us of help in relocating the café,” said Rupa.In a tweet on Saturday, the SP chief had said that the state government has not only failed to provide employment but has also thrown obstacles in the path of those trying to make a living for themselves.
