Woman gets husband declared dead to get loan on house; arrested

Agra: A 42-year-old woman was arrested by Hariparvat police in Agra for fraudulently securing a loan of Rs 25.65 lakh against a house owned by her mother-in-law. Sweta wanted a lavish life but since her husband was an Army jawan, she couldn’t fulfil her dreams. According to police, the accused, before divorcing her husband, declared him dead by obtaining a fake death certificate in 2015, while the couple had applied for divorce in the same year. The certificate was attached with the stolen property papers to secure the loan. The two were married in 1993 and had a daughter and son.

According to police, the accused, before divorcing her husband, declared him dead by obtaining a fake death certificate in 2015, while the couple had applied for divorce in the same year. The certificate was attached with the stolen property papers to secure the loan. The matter came to light this year after a private home loan provider sent an auction notice to the woman’s mother-in-law, after no installment was paid to the lender.Accused identified as Sweta Gautam, mother of two was booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 466 (forgery of record of court or of public register, etc), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document).Speaking to TOI, sub-inspector Jitendar Pal Rajoria, who helped in cracking the case said, “It was a rare kind of case. Sweta wanted a lavish life but since her husband was an Army jawan, she couldn’t fulfil her dreams. The MA pass loved to call herself professor and was living separately with her two children in Khandari area, where she operated a beauty parlour, to which her mother-in-law objected, as she suspected Sweta of illicit and immoral activities.”Sweta is former wife of retired sepoy Brijesh Gautam. The two were married in 1993 and had a daughter and son. In 2017, the couple had a divorce.“In 2014, Bhagwati Devi Gautam reported in an FIR that her house registry papers were missing, but next year on October 25, 2015, Sweta Gautam in connivance with the employees of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL) of Sanjay Place branch and two real estate brokers (Rizwan Ahmad and Amit Parashar), forged house documents and managed to get fake death certificate of her husband to get a loan of Rs 25.65 lakh sanctioned. She invested that money in Noida sector 110 and opened a sweet shop (SRK Sweets) in partnership with two other men, Raju Jain and Kuldeep,” added Rajoria.According to police, in the FIR, Sweta’s daughter Reshu Gautam, 22, an MBBS undergraduate too has been named for fraud along with unidentified employees of DHFL and two brokers.
