BSAs directed to ensure teacherstudent ratio in primary schools

Agra: Given the skewed teacher–student ratio at many government primary schools , state government has issued directions to the basic education department to ensure that set norms be followed. Standard teacher-student ratio will be ensured at all schools.”According to basic education department records, a majority of schools with no permanent teachers are in Fatehabad, Jaitpur Kalan, Kheragarh, Jagner, Bah, Pinahat, Sainya, Baroli Ahir, Akola, Fatehpur Sikri, Etmadpur, Shamshabad and Khandoli blocks. After this, adjustment of teachers will be done.Earlier this month, TOI had reported that about 241 schools in Agra district had no permanent teacher on duty. That is why schools in rural areas were being run by shiksha mitras (contractual teachers). We will ensure the orders are suitably implemented.

Agra: Given the skewed teacher–student ratio at many government primary schools , state government has issued directions to the basic education department to ensure that set norms be followed. According to norms, there must be one teacher for a maximum of 40 students and not more than one teacher for a minimum of 20 students in a primary school. Basic shiksha adhikari ( BSA ) of districts concerned have been warned that strict action will be taken against them if norms are violated.All districts must complete adjustment of teachers to comply with the ratio before August 2, 2018.Following the orders issued by secretary, UP government, Manisha Trighatiya, a committee headed by district magistrate will decide on adjustment or transfer of teachers in primary schools to ensure that the ratio is maintained. The committee will have BSA as its secretary, a member nominated by the District Institute of Educational and one block education officer. The committee will determine the number of posts of teachers for each school. After this, adjustment of teachers will be done.Earlier this month, TOI had reported that about 241 schools in Agra district had no permanent teacher on duty. That is why schools in rural areas were being run by shiksha mitras (contractual teachers). At the same time, several schools in city areas had surplus teachers attached with them.According to a source, the skewed teacher-student ratio takes place due to malpractices in adjustment of teachers and manipulated transfers.As per the government orders, basic education department officials should ensure that every school has a teacher of science and mathematics.Agra’s BSA Anand Prakash Sharma said, “State government orders regarding adjustment of teachers has been received. We will ensure the orders are suitably implemented. Standard teacher-student ratio will be ensured at all schools.”According to basic education department records, a majority of schools with no permanent teachers are in Fatehabad, Jaitpur Kalan, Kheragarh, Jagner, Bah, Pinahat, Sainya, Baroli Ahir, Akola, Fatehpur Sikri, Etmadpur, Shamshabad and Khandoli blocks. The student enrolment in these blocks is also very low, with Bah block being the worst.
